School-led Initial Teacher Training

All Teaching School Alliances will be developing increased opportunities at both primary and secondary phases to provide school-led initial teacher training.  This inevitably encompasses a number of traditional routes e.g., PGCE as well as more recent models such as School Direct.  In most case these routes are accredited by a Higher Education provider but can also be accredited by an individual SCITT.

Teaching School Alliances should be building their capacity to train teachers across their alliance and beyond and will take a much more active role in the recruitment and selection of trainee teachers.  This not only gives Worcestershire Teaching School Alliances the opportunity to ‘grow our own’ new staff but also to address local need in terms of particular subject shortage areas.

Teaching School Alliances are now much more involved in the delivery of professional studies programmes which provides excellent CPD opportunities for existing staff and in quality assuring all elements of initial teacher education.
