Develop an understanding of

  • the relationship between learning to talk well and learning well through talk
  • why developing exploratory talk is vital to deepen children’s thinking
  • ways in which purposeful talk can be modelled, scaffolded and organised

Gain practical classroom strategies which

  • are applicable across all areas of the primary curriculum
  • develop pupils’ use of mature and subject-specific vocabulary
  • make it easier for pupils to think harder, articulate their thinking more clearly and achieve at a higher standard

The University of Worcester will be leading new termly network meetings for subject leaders of PSHE.

The second session (23 March – online) will focus on Relationships and Sex Education and will cover the following:

  • How and when to teach puberty lessons
  • What is statutory and what’s not
  • An exploration of useful resources
  • How to ensure a strong parental partnership
  • Dealing with the tricky questions

Pedagogical and Subject Knowledge Enhancement for Teaching Assistants (English and Mathematics): What you do makes a difference!

This friendly and interactive course is aimed at TAs/HLs/LSAs who would like to enhance their subject knowledge, confidence and teaching strategies to support pupils to achieve their very best in English and mathematics.

The course will focus on:

  • Key areas of the National Curriculum in both English and mathematics
  • An insight into how children learn and some key pedagogies
  • The use of subject specific terminology and what it really means
  • The use of questioning to develop pupils’ inference in English and reasoning in mathematics
  • Great practical ideas to try and take-away!

Supporting Children with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)

What can do to support the children who are coming in to your schools and nurseries with poor speech and language?

What are some of the impacts of speech and language difficulties upon those children?

What is the relationship between communication difficulties, poor self esteem and behavioural problems?

This one day workshop explores some of these questions and suggests practical, accessible and effective ways to provide support for the children in your care.

Topics covered:

The prevalence of SLCN, The impacts of SLCN, The complexity of speech and language and where problems can arise, Effective ways to support children with SLCN.
